Photographic Prints

The individual images presented here on this website are all scans of contact prints of 8×10 inch camera negatives.  The print is identical in size to the negative that produced them. Michael produces each of these prints in his wet darkroom from silver-based negatives on silver gelatin printing paper. Each print is carefully washed and selenium toned for archival permeance and mounted on 13” x 15” archival matboard in either portrait or landscape orientation.

In order to produce prints that exhibit the broadest range of visually appealing tonality Michael strives for in his prints, Michael uses several pyro based negative developers and processing techniques depending upon his previsualized objectives for the final print at the time of the exposure. Michael believes in representing the images he photographs as close the actual scene in the natural world as possible in producing an optimal “bullet proof” negative. As a result, he does not use darkroom dodging or burning to add (or need to add) any interpretative layers to his prints. Michael wants the viewer to know that if he took them to the scene he photographed, it would emulate precisely the image represented in the print. The world we live in is simply marvelous and should stand on its own in natural print form.

As a result of the fact that Michael has fully optimized his photographic process, he is able to sell his prints at very reasonable prices with the objective of reaching as broad an audience for photographic fine prints as possible.
